Volunteers’ Week: Don Burgess

2nd June 2020

Volunteers’ Week is celebrated between 1st and 7th June every year. It is a week in which the UK celebrates volunteers and says thank you to them all for the contribution they make.

Today we would love to highlight our very own Don Burgess who has been with us for the past 5 years.

Don deals with collections and is out every day collecting food from our numerous donators, such as Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Co-op, schools, and other businesses and organisations. He then weighs it, records it and delivers it to the warehouse. All this at the sprightly age of 83! He is always there with a smile, a cream cake or two for a cuppa and a motivating chat, and definitely the spirit of a caring soul.

He is truly a remarkable and amazing volunteer and his generosity extends not only through the help he has given throughout the years, but his continuous loyalty to others who are needy. Even throughout his years of volunteering, Don has been a carer for his beloved wife Maureen up until her most recent passing. May God bless him more each day.

We would all like to thank and acknowledge Don’s hard work and commitment and cherish him in our family.
